A new G1 winner for Shamardal

Baltic Baroness takes the Prix Vermeille at Longchamp

Shamardal sired his 12th individual G1 winner on Sunday September 14 when his four-year-old daughter Baltic Baroness narrowly denied the previously unbeaten Pomology in the G1 Prix Vermeille, with progressive Dolniya in third and last seasons Arc winner Treve back in fourth. A Group winning three-year-old, she has now won her last three races after a pair of Listed triumphs at Compiegne and Maisons-Laffitte.

Owned and bred by Gestut Ammerland, Baltic Baroness is a daughter of the winning Sadler's Wells mare Born Wild, herself a daughter of German Derby winner Borgia.

Shamardal has been enjoying a superb 2014 with Baltic Baroness becoming his 12th individual Group winner and his third at the highest level after Mukhadram and Dan Excel. He was also responsible for Bow Creek, who won his second G2 at Leopardstown yesterday.
