New Bay returns to winning ways in style

Dubawi’s French Derby winner victorious in Prix Gontaut-Biron at Deauville

New Bay, winner of last year’s G1 Prix du Jockey Club and a son of Dubawi, bounced back to form on 15 August when landing the G3 Prix Gontaut-Biron, run over ten furlongs at Deauville.

Sent off as the odds-on favourite, New Bay was settled in second place before cruising to the lead with two furlongs left to run. The Andre Fabre-trained colt only needed to be pushed along under hands and heels by jockey Vincent Cheminaud to win by a length and a half.

New Bay also won the Prix Guillame d’Ornano and the Prix Niel last year (both G2 contests), before finishing a fine third behind Golden Horn in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe – a race which he will be aimed at again this year.

Owned and bred by Juddmonte, New Bay is out of the Stakes-winning Zamindar mare Cinnamon Bay, who is from the family of Beat Hollow and Oasis Dream.

Dubawi has now sired 19 individual Black type winners so far this year, headed by Coronation Cup and Dubai Sheema Classic hero Postponed, due to reappear in the G1 Juddmonte International at York on Wednesday. Should he prevail on the Knavesmire, he will become the second consecutive winner of the race by Dubawi, following Arabian Queen’s superb victory last year.
