Lucky ninth for Lucky Nine

Dubawi's Group One-winning sprinter successful yet again in Hong Kong and lands the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup

Dubawi’s consistent son Lucky Nine landed his ninth career victory in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday, a race which holds Group 1 status in Hong Kong.

Back in December Lucky Nine, now five, recorded his first internationally recognised Group 1 win with a memorable success in the Hong Kong Sprint at the International Meeting and his next outing is now likely to be in Dubai having earned his place in the line-up for the G1 Golden Shaheen on Dubai World Cup night with his most recent win.

Bred by Darley from the Green Desert mare Birjand, Lucky Nine started his racing career as Luck Or Design and won his maiden in Ireland before being snapped up to race in Hong Kong.

In January 2011 he won the HKG1 Hong Kong Classic Mile and a raid on Japan in autumn last year saw him finish second in the G2 Centaur Stakes at Hanshin.

Lucky Nine is one of seven Group or Grade One winners for Dubawi, along with Classic winners Makfi and Waldpark, plus Secret Admirer, Happy Archer, Dubawi Heights and new Darley stallion Poet’s Voice. Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud for a fee of £75,000, October 1 Special Live Foal.
