Lucida adds G2 Rockfel Stakes to resume

Daughter of Shamardal impressive in victory

The two-year-old filly Lucida, owned by Godolphin, had already indicated a high degree of talent in her young racing career with two Group placings in three starts, including the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes in her last outing. In the G2 Rockfel Stakes on September 26th, she put it altogether, and in doing so, becomes the 35th Group winner for her sire Shamardal.

In the seven-furlong Rockfel, Lucida found herself racing mid-pack throughout five panels. The leaders were a bit reluctant to give way but she began to reign them in in the final two furlongs and was able to put them away nearing the wire.

Bred by Darley in Ireland, Lucida is out of the Street Cry mare Lura a half-sister to Champion and Breeders’ Cup Turf winner English Channel as well as the multiple Graded-placed Sedgefield.

Lucida makes it a baker’s dozen of Group Stakes winners in 2014 as she becomes his 13th Group winner of the year and 35th lifetime.  Three of his runners have won at the highest level this year, including Baltic Baroness who captured the G1 Prix Vermeille on September 14th at Lonchamp.
