Lightning Moon strikes at Ascot

Shamardal's son remains unbeaten in the G3 Bengough Stakes

Shamardal's progressive three-year-old son Lightning Moon won his third career victory in as many starts on Saturday October 4 when victorious in the G3 Bengough Stakes over six furlongs at Ascot. Unraced as a juvenile, he made a winning career debut at Salisbury back in May before winning a handicap in the same month at Haydock by six lengths. Coming back off a break, he held off Danzeno to win by a head with a further two-and-a-quarter lengths back in third.

Bred by Michael Collins, Lightning Moon is out of the winning Peintre Celebre mare Catch The Moon and a half-brother to Stakes winner Song Of My Heart.

Shamardal is enjoying a superb season and currently leads all European or North American sires by global earnings in 2014. Amongst his 14 Group winners this season are G1-winners Mukhadram, Dan Excel and Baltic Baroness with G2 Rockfel heroine Lucida heading his juveniles.
