Lamar speeds to Fleur de Lys Fillies’ Stakes victory

Daughter of Cape Cross adds her first Stakes win

Lamar, a four-year-old Cape Cross filly, has been a very versatile performer and having opened her 2015 season with a pair of victories, added a well-deserved first Stakes win on 29 October when sweeping home at Lingfield to win the Listed Fleur de Lys Fillies’ Stakes.

Racing just off the pace in a handy position under Luke Morris, the James Tate-trained filly began to pick up once entering the home straight and accelerated superbly to win the one-mile contest by half a length.

Lamar is out of the G1-placed mare Deveron, a full-sister to dual G2 winner Windward Islands.

Cape Cross has enjoyed a truly outstanding year, thanks in no small part to Derby, Eclipse, Irish Champion and Arc winner Golden Horn, who is now in Kentucky ahead of his bid to round off his magnificent career with a win in the Breeders’ Cup Turf on Saturday.
