Lady Of Dubai cruises into Oaks contention

Daughter of Dubawi romps home to take the Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood to become her sire’s 20th Stakes winner of the year

Dubawi’s year continues to go from strength to strength and on 21 May, he recorded an astounding 20th Stakes winner of the year when Lady Of Dubai ran out the facile winner of the Height Of Fashion Stakes.

Sent off as favourite to take this Oaks trial, Lady Of Dubai travelled smoothly just off the pace under the in-form Adam Kirby and once asked for her effort, put the race to bed in a matter of strides as she drew clear of her rivals with consummate ease, going on to win by three and a quarter lengths.

This was the second career victory for the Luca Cumani-trained filly, who races in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid al Maktoum. She was a close second in the Listed Montrose Fillies’ Stakes at Newmarket late last year and was making her seasonal debut today.

Bred by Fittocks Stud, Lady Of Dubai is out of the Montjeu mare Lady Of Everest, a half-sister to G1 Darley Irish Oaks second and Stakes winner Roses For The Lady. She is also from the family of St Leger winner Millenary.

Dubawi is by some margin the world’s best sire of Stakes winners in 2015, with his nearest rival, fellow Darley sire Medaglia d'Oro, five adrift of his impressive total. He has sired no fewer than four G1 winners so far this year, including last Saturday’s Lockinge winner Night Of Thunder (who became the first horse to complete the 2,000 Guineas/ Lockinge double) and Dubai World Cup winner Prince Bishop.
