Italian St Leger exacta for the Darley stallions

Authorized’s Autor adds a first Group win to his record, with Duca di Mantova (Manduro) taking second

The G3 Italian St Leger proved to be a happy hunting ground for Darley-sired runners, with Authorized entire Autor leading home Manduro’s son Duca di Mantova at Milan on 24 October.

Both horses were settled just off the early pace, with Autor taking up the running with four furlongs left to run. Soon moving clear, he was hard pressed by the fast-finishing Duca di Mantova in the closing stages but battling well, eventually won by a short head with the pair almost three lengths ahead of the third-placed runner.

Autor has now won seven times and has been placed at Stakes level on three previous occasions.

Autor was bred in Ireland by Zanim Ralphy Meahjohn and is out of the Kayhasi mare Kansas, making him a half-brother to multiple Group winner Without Fear. The mare is herself a half-sister to G2 Hardwicke Stakes and G2 Blandford Stakes winner Predapppio, who was also third in the G1 Grosser Preis von Baden.

Authorized has now sired 11 individual Black type winners this year, plus a further three Stakes-placed horses. They are led by G1 winner Hartnell and Complacent, who added a third Group victory to his record (which includes a win in last year’s G1 Spring Champion Stakes) earlier this month.
