Ipswich Cup to Danchai

Authorized’s son claims his maiden Stakes victory

Scratched from his assignment at Rosehill Gardens, the Chris Waller-trained Authorized gelding Danchai headed north to Queensland to claim the Listed Ipswich Cup, becoming the 23rd Stakes winner for his sire.

The lone grey in the field, jockey Luke Tarrant had the gelding settled on the rail in a midfield position, with tearaway leader Kurtley ensuring that there was a solid tempo up front.

When the leader compounded before the home turn, he came back through the field and hampered Danchai, but as they rounded the home turn there was enough room for him to squeeze along the rail to record his third career win, and first at Stakes level.

Bred by Brook Stud Bloodstock, Danchai is out of the unraced Red Ransom mare Scarlet Empire, a three-quarter-sister to Champion Two-year-old filly Sky Lantern, as well as a half-sister to G3 winners Arctic (Shamardal) and Shanty Star.

Standing at Haras du Logis at a fee of €10,000 October 1st SLF, Authorized has been experiencing a very good 2015 with Danchai becoming his eighth individual Stakes winner behind G1 winner Hartnell and the G2 winner Maygrove.
