Iffwedance wins New Zealand St Leger

Son of Iffraaj a new Stakes winner for his sire

A winner by five lengths two weeks ago, Iffraaj's four-year-old son Iffwedance started one of the favoured runners as he stepped up in trip to contest the Listed New Zealand St Leger at Trentham on March 14.

Settling handy in fourth position on the outside, jockey Jonathan Riddell always had the gelding travelling well in the run. Taking the lead rounding the home turn, Iffwedance outstayed the leader to record a half-length victory over Sheezababe, with a further three lengths back to the third placed Bajour.

Bred by A J and Mrs G P Fell, Iffwedance is the first Stakes winner out of the Soviet Star mare Merry Dance, from the family of G1 winners Fun On The Run and Tall Poppy.

The sire of 28 Stakes winners including five individual G1 winners highlighted by multple G1 winner Rizeena and Champion two-year-old Wootton Bassett, Iffraaj stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £22,500 (October 1st SLF).
