Helmet colt a determined winner at Epsom

Hurricane Rush becomes the 14th winner for his first-season sire

First-season sire Helmet added a 14th winner to his record on 29 August when his son Hurricane Rush captured the seven-furlong maiden at Epsom.

The Charlie Hills-trained two-year-old colt was near the back of the pack early, continued to make up ground through the stretch, and took over inside the final furlong to win by a half-length under jockey Silvestre De Sousa.

Bred in Ireland by Gerry Flannery Developments, Hurricane Rush is out of the Stakes-placed Polish Precedent mare Without Precedent.

Helmet has made a very successful start to his stud career, siring three Group horses to date – more than any other first-season sire in the northern hemisphere. They include G2 Vintage Stakes second Thunder Snow and G3 Curragh Stakes second Mur Hiba. And Just about an hour before Hurricane Rush's maiden win, Helmet's daughter Bongrace was victorious at Chepstow, winning for the third time in her last four starts.
