Gold Cup for Dubawi

Al Kazeem lowers the colours of Camelot at the Curragh

Dubawi's progressive five-year-old colt Al Kazeem landed his biggest career victory on Sunday May 26, at his first attempt at G1 level, when defeating last seasons Derby hero Camelot in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh. Held up last early in the ten-furlong contest, he stalked Camelot's move at the top of the straight, before ranging alongside him a furlong from home, only needing to be nudged out with hands and heels for a one-and-a-half length triumph.

This was his tenth career start with five victories and a further four second places, with his only unplaced run coming on his two-year-old debut.

Bred by Mr and Mrs Deer, Al Kazeem is out of the Darshaan mare Kazeem, a half-sister to the Group-winning mare Kanz. Kazeem has recently been scanned in foal this season to Dubawi.

Dubawi, who stands for £75,000 Oct 1st SLF, has sired four G1-winners in 2013 (and 11 in total), Dubai G1 scorer Hunter's Light, G1-winning South African juvenile Willow Magic, and Singapore G1-sprint winner Lucky Nine. Dubawi stands alongside his Queen Elizabeth II Stakes-winning son Poet's Voice at Dalham Hall Stud, who covers at a fee of £12,000.
