G3 success for Toscanini

Son of Shamardal lands the Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh

Toscanini, who has only failed to finish outside the money once in a 20 race career, landed his best victory to date on Sunday 7 August when winning the G3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh. Run over six furlongs, the son of Shamardal was quickly disputing the running, and taking over a couple of furlongs from home, ran on well to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths, with his paternal half-brother Lord Of The Land running a very creditable race in third.

Toscanini is one of six winners, from only six runners, out of the Panoramic mare Tuzla. A winner of 12 starts in the US including a top-flight victory in the Ramona Handicap, Tuzla also finished an excellent second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile.

The sire of 16 Stakes winners in 2016, Shamardal has now also had nine win at Group level including top-flight scorers Dariyan and Tryster, leading fillies Usherette and Speedy Boarding and Australian G2-winner Bow Creek.
