G3 Carbine Club to Kermadec

Teofilo colt claims the opening race on Derby Day

Teofilo colt Kermadec, one of the most inexperienced runners in the G3 Carbine Club Stakes, started the day in winning form for the Darley stallions, recording a very classy victory on only his third start.

Having recorded a win and a second from his only two starts to date, the Chris Waller-trained three-year-old jumped away well from barrier two with jockey Blake Shinn positioning the colt just behind the leaders after the field had travelled two furlongs. As Stratum Star, who had travelled wide in the run went forward and kicked rounding the home turn, Kermadec came off the leaders' heels and chased him down to give his sire his 30th Stakes winner.

Bred in New Zealand by Llanhennock Trust, Kermadec is out of the Listed-winning Fuji Kiseki mare Hy Fuji. Already the dam of the stakes placed Good Winning, Hy Fuji comes from the family of Reset’s G1 performer Shoreham, and also has a yearling filly by Medaglia d'Oro.

Sire of six G1 winners including Trading Leather, Parish Hall, Havana Gold and Sonntag, Teofilo stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €50,000 Oct 1st, Special live foal.
