Fourth Stakes victory for Sommerabend

Son of Shamardal lands the Listed Prix Luthier at Deauville

Sommerabend, a son of Shamardal who was the winner of the G2 Grosse Europa-Meile in 2011, landed his fourth Stakes victory on Saturday December 14 when taking the Listed Prix Luthier over 1500m on Deuaville's synthetic track. Coming into the race on the back of a second in the G3 Prix Perth at Saint-Cloud and a Stakes victory back in July, Sommerabend has now won nine starts in a 26 race career.

Bred by Gestut Schlenderhan, he is a son of the Stakes-winning Monsun mare Sommernacht and a half-brother to two Stakes winners in Sommertag and Sinnerman (both by Tiger Hill).

Shamardal is the sire of 16 Stakes winners this year including a pair of G1-winners in Dan Excel and Maybe Discreet, the highly-rated G2-winner Mukhadram, the Irish-bred Puissance de Lune who has won two G2's in Australia, and the high-class juvenile filly Ihtimal, winner of the G2 May Hill Stakes before running third in the G1 Fillies' Mile. Shamardal will stand this coming season at €50,000 Oct 1st SLF at Kildangan Stud.
