Former UK Teofilo entire on path to Melbourne Cup

Amralah stamps himself as a major player after G2 victory

Connections could bypass the G1 Caulfield Cup next week with Amralah despite the son of Teofilo's brilliant win in the G2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield, October 10.

A winner of the G3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock last year, Amralah, who was injured at his first start in Australia last year after being imported from Europe, has been a revelation this preparation.

The six-year-old won a Listed race at Morphettville two starts ago before a luckless run in the G1 Turnbull Stakes last Sunday. Amralah backed up six days later, and it looked as though luck could again desert the horse when he slipped out of the barriers, but jockey Hugh Bowman didn’t panic. Bowman took off on Amralah in the middle stages from third last to take the lead well before the home turn and never looked troubled in the straight.

The horse now has a ticket in next week’s Caulfield Cup, but connections have indicated they could wait for bigger riches later in the spring, primarily the G1 Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday in November, rather than racing him for the third week in a row.

Bred by Nawara Stud, Amralah is out of the unraced Diesis mare Sharp Mode who is closely related to multiple G1 winner Elmaamul.

Teofilo is the sire of 17 Stakes winners in 2015, among them multiple G1 winners Pleascach and Kermadec.
