Dubawi’s super Saturday continues

Mubtaahij stakes his Kentucky Derby claim with an astounding eight-length win in the UAE Derby

Dubawi’s day has gone from strength to strength, and with a pair of Group winners already notched up, he recorded his third in the most impressive fashion as Mubtaahij stormed home to land the UAE Derby on World Cup night at Meydan.

Settled just off the pace under Christophe Soumillon, the thee-year-old colt (who has won impressively twice at Meydan already this year) made his move as the field quickened for home and the race was over in a matter of strides as he flew clear to win by no fewer than eight lengths. He is now likely to head to the United Stakes to contest the first of their Triple Crown races, the Kentucky Derby.

Bred by Dunmore Stud Ltd and sold to current connections for €450,000 as a yearling, Mubtaahij is a half-brother to five other winners including Europe's Champion three-year-old filly of 2010, Lily Of The Valley.

Dubawi has sired no fewer than 16 Black type performers so far this year, headed by G1 winners Hunter’s Light and Shamal Wind, plus today's earlier Group winners Catkins and Amber Orchid. He stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £125,000 October 1st SLF.
