Dubawi does it again!

Prince Bishop storms home at Meydan to become his sire’s second Dubai World Cup winner – and his fourth Group winner of the day

Super sire Dubawi rounded off a perfect day in a truly perfect way, when his son Prince Bishop put up the performance of his life to land the Dubai World Cup and become the second winner of the world’s richest race for his sire.

Slowly away under William Buick, the handsome chestnut was some way adrift of his rivals during the early stages of the race but looming up on the outside around halfway, soon began to make his presence felt. Asked to quicken once entering the home straight, Saeed bin Suroor’s charge could not have responded better as he moved to the front and stormed home to win by almost three lengths.

Winner of the G1 Al Maktoum Challenge R3 last year, Prince Bishop was beaten just a head in R2 this year, before recording a fast-finishing second to African Story in this year’s G1 R3.

Bred by Thurso Limited, he is out of North East Bay (Prospect Bay), herself a half-sister to fellow G1 producer Hold To Ransom.

He is one of 17 G1 winners for Dubawi, who, on an absolutely remarkable day, also sired today’s eight-length UAE Derby winner Mubtaahij, together with G2 winner Catkins (who was recording her 11th Stakes win) and South African Group winner Amber Orchid. Dubawi's previous Dubai World Cup winner is Monterosso, now standing at Darley in Japan. Today's victory for Prince Bishop carries on a tremendous family tradition in the race as he is of course a grandson of the great Dubai Millennium.

Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £125,000 October 1st SLF.
