Derby glory for Akeed Mofeed

Son of Dubawi wins Hong Kong showpiece

Akeed Mofeed, formally trained in Ireland by John Oxx, landed his biggest triumph to date when winning the Listed Hong Kong Derby over 2000m at Sha Tin. The son of Dubawi, who was sent off favourite for the local G1-contest, was held up in midfield and despite being too keen early on, he made his run in the straight to win by half-a-length.

Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, he is out of the unraced Tiger Hill mare Wonder Why, who hails from the top family of Hernando. She also has yearling colt by Halling, a full-brother foal to Akeed Mofeed and is due to visit New Approach this season.

Dubawi, who stands for £75,000 Oct 1st, SLF, is the sire of nine individual G1 winners, including Hunter's Light, one of the leading contenders for this years Dubai World Cup who won the G1 Al Maktoum Challenge R3 earlier this month. Akeed Mofeed becomes Dubawi's sixth Stakes winner of 2013 and joins fellow top Hong Kong performer Lucky Nine as local G1 scorers.
