Dawn Approach hits his rivals for six

Dawn Approach, already confirmed as one of the most talented horses of his generation, cemented his position as favourite for next year’s 2,000 Guineas and recorded his second G1 victory in tremendous style on 13 October, landing the Dewhurst by two and three-quarter lengths.

Sent off as the odds-on favourite, Jim Bolger’s charge was settled just off the pace under Kevin Manning, with his work companion and eventual second Leitir Moi making the early pace. Switched outside entering the dip, Dawn Approach demonstrated what has become his trademark finish, pulling further and further clear of his rivals to win in dominating fashion.

This was his sixth win in a tremendous unbeaten run that started back in March when he was the first of his sire’s runners to hit the racecourse. He followed up with a pair of victories at Naas (one in the Listed Rochestown Stakes), before heading to Royal Ascot where he trounced his rivals in the Coventry Stakes. Last month he recorded his first win at the highest level when winning the G1 National Stakes by almost five lengths. He is now around 5-1 to go one better than his sire and take the 2,000 Guineas next year.

New Approach has made a superb start to his stud career, also siring Chesham Stakes winner and G2 performer Tha’Ir, ill-fated G2 Albany Stakes winner Newfangled, plus Rasmeyaa, who was Stakes-placed on her only start to date.
