Darley reduces the stud fees of its unproven stallions by 25%

G1 Breeders’ Cup winner Vale Of York and G1 performer Alexandros retire to Darley

Darley has announced the fees for its 23 stallions that will stand in Europe for the 2011 breeding season.

Darley’s European roster includes the sires of eight 2010 European G1 winners including Dubawi (£55,000), the stallion who has made the best start at stud since 1971; Shamardal (€50,000), the sire of four 2010 G1 winners and the northern hemisphere’s leading second-crop sire by cumulative earnings; Iffraaj (€15,000), Europe’s leading first season sire of 2010; Cape Cross (€35,000), sire of 2010 G1-winning three-year-old colt Behkabad and King's Best (€15,000), sire of Derby and Arc hero Workforce and also of 2010 Japanese Derby winner, Eishin Flash.

Sam Bullard, Darley’s Director of Stallions said, ‘The Darley stallions have had a tremendous year.  Our 2011 roster offers breeders outstanding quality and great value highlighted by the fact that we have reduced the fees of all of our unproven stallions by 25%.’

Darley has also announced that Vale Of York and Alexandros will join their roster in 2011.

Dual Stakes winner Vale Of York, who defeated five previous G1 winners when winning the $2 million G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile for Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin in 2009 will retire to Kildangan Stud in Ireland for the forthcoming breeding season. By Invincible Spirit and also his best two-year-old son, Vale Of York will stand at a fee of €5,000.

New to Haras du Logis in France, Alexandros, the high-class son of Kingmambo and a G1 performer from two to five, won the G3 Prix de Cabourg at Deauville in the July of his juvenile year and went on to be third just behind Natagora in a high-class running of the G1 Prix Morny.  Alexandros progressed to be G1 placed on several more occasions in three seasons with Godolphin, most notably in the 2009 G1 Lockinge Stakes when defeating Twice Over and Paco Boy.  Alexandros – whose fee has been set at €4,000 – is from one of Sheikh Mohammed's foundation families, that of the famously tenacious racemare High Hawk; Singspiel's sire, In The Wings; as well as the stallion of the moment, Dubawi.

Bullard continued, ‘We are also pleased to be offering Vale Of York and Alexandros to breeders in 2011. With Invincible Spirit quickly establishing himself as a leading sire and Vale Of York being his best juvenile son, we’re delighted to be standing him.  Alexandros is a quality horse by one of the greatest stallions of our time, and is from the family of our outstanding young sire Dubawi. His own race record is one of precocity and courage, and we are very confident he can keep up his family's good name in producing excellent stallions.'

Kheleyf (£4,000) is the only stallion changing location in 2011.  He will move from Kildangan Stud to Dalham Hall.
