Consistent Fintry adds another Group win to her fine record

Daughter of Shamardal lands the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown

Shamardal’s three-year-old daughter Fintry, last seen winning the G2 Prix de Sandringham back in June, returned to the racecourse in superb style, taking the one-mile Atalanta Stakes at Sandown Park.

Carrying a 7lb penalty for her previous G2 win, the Godolphin filly (who is trained by Andre Fabre) was always travelling well and once asked to quicken as the field approached the final two furlongs, looked a class above her rivals as she eased to the front and seemed to have plenty in hand when crossing the line a length and a quarter in front.

She has now won four times and placed second once in five starts and a step up to G1 level (and a return to the UK) now beckons, with the Sun Chariot Stakes a likely target. The Atalanta Stakes has proved a very successful springboard to G1 victory in the past, with the previous two winners - Dank and Integral – both going on to win at the highest level.

Bred by Darley, Fintry is one of three Black type performers out of the G1-placed UAE-bred mare Campsie Fells, who also won the G3 Prix Vanteaux at three.

She is one of 20 individual Black type winners this year for Shamardal, who is also sire of 2014 G1 Eclipse winner Mukhadram and Dunboyne Express, who added a second G1 victory to his record in May when landing the International Cup in Singapore.
