Classic glory for Shamardal

Akua'da lands the G2 German 1,000 Guineas

Shamardal's three-year-old filly Akua'da landed her biggest success of her fledgling career on Sunday June 2, when winning the G2 German 1,000 Guineas at Dusseldorf. Always close to the pace, she battled on gamely in the straight to record a narrow victory over a fast finishing Calyxa. This was only her fourth career start, with a juvenile debut victory at Hannover coming before an excellent G3 second in the Preis der Winterkonigen on her only other two-year-old start.

Owned and bred by Gestut Brummerhof, she is out of the Stakes-placed mare Akua'ba (Sadler's Wells), who hails from the family of G1-winning juvenile Heart Of Darkness.

Shamardal has now sired 28 Group winners including ten at G1 level. This is his seventh at Group-level this season with two G1-winners (Dan Excel and Maybe Discreet), multiple G2-winner and Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance de Lune, and progressive G3-winners Mukhadram and Baltic Baroness (who is also out of a Sadler's Wells mare). Shamardal stands in 2013 for €50,000 Oct 1st SLF at Kildangan Stud alongside his G1-winning juvenile son Casamento, who is standing for the first time this season at a fee of €5,000.
