Classic contenders

Darley stallions head the entries for this year's Guineas

Entries for this year's English Guineas were released this week and the Darley stallions are responsible for no fewer than 37 contenders for the first British Classics of the season.

Dubawi, already sire of a 2,000 Guineas winner in Makfi, has more entries in the colts Classic than any other sire (five), with Teofilo responsible for four. An interesting entrant for Dubawi is Hermival, unbeaten thus far and trained by Mikel Delzangles, who of course trained Makfi - who followed up his win on the Rowley Mile with an outstanding victory over Goldikova in the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois. Another unbeaten Dubawi colt hoping to take his chance is Aljamaaheer, trained by Roger Varian.

Teofilo's Dewhurst winner Parrish Hall is also entered in the 2,000 Guineas, together with stablemates Heavy Weight and Light Heavy.

In the fillies' race, Shamardal has three entries, including Wahlyah who won the valuable Tattersalls Millions Fillies' Stakes as a juvenile.

Exceed And Excel has two entered for the 1,000 Guineas, including Best Terms who landed both the G2 Queen Mary and G2 Lowther Stakes last year. His other entry is the useful Excelette, who won or placed in eight of her nine starts last year and has been Stakes-placed on four occasions.
