Casamento off the mark in style

First-season sire records his first winner with an easy victory for Barrington at Windsor

Casamento opened his winner’s account in tremendous fashion on 23 May when his son Barrington took the five-furlong novice by an impressive six lengths at Windsor.

The Charlie Hills-trained colt had looked a promising type when fourth on his debut at Newbury ten days ago and this time was soon in front under Daryl Holland. Ridden along once inside the final two furlongs, Barrington kept to his task superbly, soon moving clear to win very easily.

Bred by Con Marnane, Barrington is out of the Exceed And Excel mare Mia Divina, herself a half-sister to multiple Stakes winner Mia Diletta – dam of Poet’s Voice’s Italian 2,000 Guineas winner Poeta Diletto.

Casamento is the best two-year-old at stud by Shamardal and won the G1 Racing Post Trophy and G2 Beresford Stakes as a juvenile, taking the latter contest by four lengths. He was also beaten just a head in the G1 National Stakes on only his second start.

Casamento’s first yearlings were in high demand at the 2015 yearling sales, selling for up to £210,000 – he is standing the current season at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £5,000, October 1st SLF.
