Cape Cross colt remains unbeaten with Stakes victory at HQ

Golden Horn takes the Feilden Stakes

On the opening day of Newmarket’s Craven meeting, Golden Horn emerged as an exciting prospect for his sire Cape Cross when maintaining his perfect record, winning the Listed Feilden Stakes.

Settled at the rear of the field, the John Gosden-trained colt, who was making only his second start, was given plenty of racing room by jockey Frankie Dettori and despite showing signs of greenness once asked to quicken, accelerated superbly and won the nine-furlong contest by a length and a half.

Winner of his sole start at two, Golden Horn holds an entry in both the 2,000 Guineas and the G2 Dante Stakes.

Bred by Hascombe and Valiant Studs, Golden Horn is out of Fleche d’Or, making him a half-brother to last year’s Ballymacol Stud Stakes winner Eastern Belle. The mare is herself a half-sister to the great racemare Rebecca Sharp.

Cape Cross, sire of ten G1 winners to date, plus broodmare sire of last year’s Derby winner and grandsire of the Oaks winner, stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €20,000 October 1st SLF.
