Cape Of Approval takes the Midsummer Sprint

Progressive son of Cape Cross becomes his sires 78th Stakes winner

Cape Of Approval, a highly progressive son of Cape Cross, landed his first stakes success on Sunday June 16 when handling the soft well to easily take the Listed Midsummer Sprint Stakes at Cork. Held up in the rear early in the five-furlong contest, he came through on the bridle a furlong form home to beat the favourite Maarek by one-and-three-quarter lengths with Red Dubawi (Dubawi) back in third.

Bred by Mrs Maureen Haughey, Cape Of Approval is out of the Sadler's Wells mare Wyola, who has also produced the multiple G2-winning juvenile Approve.

Cape Cross, who stands this season for €35,000 Oct 1st, SLF, has now sired 78 individual Stakes winners in his illustrious career. Sire of two of the best horses in recent memory in Sea The Stars and Ouija Board, he also has a further 39 individual Group winners. His first post Sea The Stars crop are juveniles this season and already include the highly regarded Jim Bolger first-time-up winner Saburo.
