Bawina makes it ten

Talented daughter of Dubawi cements Dubawi's position as the world's leading sire

The first European Classic of 2015 won’t be run until tomorrow but already Dubawi has taken his tally of Group winners for the year into double figures, a feat no other stallion in the world can match.

Today, his four-year-old daughter Bawina, who demonstrated considerable talent when landing the G3 Prix Lieurey at Deauville last year, added a G2 victory to her record when landing the G2 Prix Du Muguet at Saint-Cloud.

Settled off the early pace under Maxime Guyon, Bawina travelled superbly throughout and once asked for her effort as the field entered the home straight, responded brilliantly to move swiftly to the front and win easily.

This was her fifth career victory and her third at Stakes level. She was also fourth in last year’s G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, so it would be no surprise to see her return to competition at the highest level later this year.

Owned and bred by Wertheimer et Frere, Bawina is out of the winning Sadler’s Wells mare Esneh, herself a half-sister to French Oaks winner and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe second Egyptband.

Dubawi, who stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £125,000 October 1st SLF, is also sire this year of Dubai World Cup winner Prince Bishop and fellow G1 winners Hunter’s Light and Shamal Wind. His impressive UAE Derby winner Mubtaahij is due to line up at Churchill Downs for tomorrow’s Kentucky Derby, while Al Kazeem will seek his fourth top-flight win in the Prix Ganay on Sunday.
