Australian Stakes double for Exceed And Excel

Flamberge wins Listed Durbridge Stakes in Adelaide following Vashka's G3 Moonga Stakes win at Caulfield earlier in the day

Exceed And Excel recorded an Australian Stakes double, October 17, with Vashka claiming the G3 Moonga Stakes at Caulfield followed by Flamberge's Listed Durbridge Stakes victory at Morphettville in South Australia.

Vashka made it back-to-back Group victories with an all-the-way win. Ridden aggressively out of the barriers by jockey James McDonald, Vashka set a strong pace throughout the race before kicking clear turning for home. The last-start winner of the G2 Shannon Stakes then had to fight off the late challenge of short-priced favourite Under The Louvre to record a determined victory.

Bred by Darley, Vashka is the seventh foal to race and first Stakes winner out of G2-placed Zabeel mare Zaroyale, as sister to Stakes winner Verb.

Flamberge was sent out a short-priced favourite but was forced to work hard for his victory, prevailing by a half-length over Swinging Arms over the same course and distance where he claimed the G1 Goodwood in May.

A hombred for David and Jenny Moodie, Flamberge is out of G3 winner Razor Blade and is a full-brother to G1 performer Curtana and half-brother to Sunburnt Land who was also a Stakes winner and G1 placegetter.

Exceed And Excel is the sire of 108 Stakes winners, among them 10 G1 winners including fellow Darley stallions Helmet and Outstrip.
