Aussie star Kermadec flies the flag for Teofilo

Sire enjoys Stakes double in Australia, headed by new G1 victory for his talented son

Teofilo’s son Kermadec has signalled he could become Australia’s premier weight-for-age horse after a strong victory in the G1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The win for the Chris Waller-trained entire was his second at the top level after winning the G1 Doncaster Handicap (1600m), also at Randwick, in the autumn.

Kermadec, ridden on Saturday by Glyn Schofield, is now well on his way to the G1 WS Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in late October. A win in that race for Kermadec, who has won four races from 11 starts, would confirm the galloper as arguably the best in Australasia.

The dam of four-year-old Kermadec, Hy Fuji, has also produced an unraced two-year-old filly by Medaglia d'Oro. The win by Kermadec was the first of a Stakes double for Teofilo, with his six-year-old son Amralah winning with ease in the Listed Penang Trophy (1800m) at Morphettville for prominent owner Lloyd Williams. Williams bought the horse from the UK in 2014 but had been restricted to just two starts before the win on Saturday. Amralah has now won five races from 14 starts, including the G3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes (2100m) at Haydock in August 2014.

Teofilo has been enjoying an excellent year with his 34 Stakes performers including the multiple G1 winner Pleascach and the highly-rated G1 performer Arod.
