Al Kazeem records second G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup triumph

Son of Dubawi wins his eighth Group race at the Curragh

The evergreen Al Kazeem, one of 20 worldwide Stakes winners of the year for his sire Dubawi, triumphed in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh on Sunday afternoon.

Previously the winner of the 1m2f contest in 2013, Al Kazeem was settled into third place on the rail by his usual big-race partner James Doyle, behind Postponed, also a son of Dubawi. Postponed led the six runner field at a steady pace before quickening in the final two furlongs. Al Kazeem made his challenge between the favourite The Grey Gatsby and Postponed, and ran on strongly to defeat the fast-finishing Fascinating Rock by a neck with Postponed a further short head away in third place.

Trained by Roger Charlton, Al Kazeem has now won four times at the highest level for his owner/breeder John Deer, and was also recording his biggest victory since returning to training last year after a brief spell at stud.

The seven-year-old Al Kazeem is the fifth G1 winner of the year for Dubawi, whose other big race winners this year include last Saturday's Lockinge Stakes victor Night Of Thunder and the Dubai World Cup winner Prince Bishop.
