Akeed Mofeed eases to his first Stakes victory

Son of Dubawi takes the Platinum Stakes at Cork

Dubawi’s well-regarded son Akeed Mofeed recorded his first Stakes victory on Sunday August 5, when easily disposing of the opposition in the Platinum Stakes over a mile at Cork. A top-class juvenile when only just failing by half-a-length in the G2 Beresford Stakes, his classic campaign has been dogged by injury, only making his seasonal debut in the Irish Derby, when a creditable fourth on very testing ground. Down in class and distance for his second run of the season, the result was never in doubt, eventually recording a five-length triumph with eight lengths back to the third.

Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, Akeed Mofeed is out of Wonder Why, an unraced daughter of Tiger Hill from the excellent family of Hernando. Wonder Why also has a two-year-old colt by Manduro named Waahy, also in training with John Oxx, a colt foal by Halling, and has been tested in foal to Dubawi again this season.

Dubawi has sired 20 Group winners from his first two European crops, a figure no stallion can replicate at the same point in their career. This 20 includes six top-flight winners including Classic-winner Makfi, this season’s Dubai World Cup hero Monterosso and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes star and young Darley stallion, Poet's Voice.
