Afsare records his second Black type win

Son of Dubawi takes the Gala Stakes

Afsare (Dubawi), last seen taking second place in the G1 Premio Presidente Della Republica behind Eclipse contender Crackerjack King (Shamardal), notched up his second Stakes victory in convincing fashion on 6 July when landing the Listed Gala Stakes at Sandown.

Settled just behind eventual third Cai Shen (Iffraaj), Afsare took the lead once Cai Shen had opted to take the stands side rail and powered home to win by two and a quarter lengths.

This was the fourth career win for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid’s homebred, who also won the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot at three.

Afsare is out of the multiple winner Jumaireyah, a granddaughter of Champion filly and multiple G1 winner Dunette.

Dubawi has now sired 13 individual Stakes winners in 2012, including Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso (who also lines up in tomorrow’s Eclipse), and German Guineas winner Electrelane.
